The dirt on Allissa
I, Allissa Haines, am a massage therapist and business owner. After 7 years as a peon in retail pharmacy, I went to massage school, graduated in 2005 and started a small, general practice. My clients include desk jockeys, high school athletes, weekend warriors, and the occasional kid on the autistic spectrum.
I can only play 4 chords on the guitar, I really like coffee and am bored by long walks on the beach.
After 4 years of volunteer work, I just stepped down as the Education Co-Chair for the AMTA Massachusetts Chapter and the AMTA New England Regional Conference Planning Committee. They give me awards so I’ll keep helping out a little, and I’m cool with that. The AMTA is in no way affiliated with my site or the opinions here. So leave ‘em alone. I’m also a member of the ABMP. I like to spread the love.
I LOVE massage. I love the hands-on work, the business side, the ethical dilemmas and the part when people give me their money. I love playing with, learning from and agitating other massage therapists.
I like action, innovation, doing things as they have not always been done. I like making my mistakes large and loud (and I’m quite good at that.) I like cheddar on my burgers and nothing on my fries.
I am BORED, BORED, BORED with 80% of the material out there for massage therapists. I find it dry and humorless and overly-professional to the point of being impersonal. I think pertinent, helpful information can be funny and smart and accessible. This site is a venue for such material, a forum for discussion and a resource for other massage therapists.
Most recently, I’ve become a contributor to The Massage Learning Network, which is poised to become the most user-friendly and comprehensive massage education resource in all the land. (Get on over there and register your email address for updates. Trust me.)
